Roof trusses
Hipped roof
A hipped roof slopes down on all sides, including the ends, so the building has no vertical gable walls.
Also known as hipped roof, hip roof, hipped end, half-hipped roof
The sloping ends are called hips. They make the roof more resistant to wind, give eaves on every side and a lower silhouette, but they are more complex to frame.
With trusses, the hipped ends are built from a hip set: stepped hip trusses, a hip girder and jack trusses. A half-hipped roof has only a small hip at the top of each gable.
