Roof trusses

Hip truss

Hip trusses are a set of trusses of decreasing height that together form the sloping end of a hipped roof.

Also known as hip truss, hip set, hip end trusses, hip girder, jack truss, half hip

A hipped roof slopes on all four sides. Its ends are built from a hip set: trusses with flat tops that step down in height towards the end wall, a heavier hip girder that carries the shorter jack trusses, and the jack trusses themselves.

Every truss in the set is different, so hip ends are a good example of why truss production must handle many truss types with little setup. A half hip (jerkin head) hips only the top of the gable.
