Traceability
Traceability is being able to follow each produced element back through its production: when, where, from what material and with what result it was made.
Also known as production traceability, element traceability, quality records, production data
For a building element, traceability links the element ID to its design data, the timber and boards used, the stations it passed, any stops or corrections, and the checks it passed. If a question arises on site or years later, the record is there.
It supports quality control, warranty claims and continuous improvement, and customers and authorities increasingly expect it as documentation of what was actually built.
