Production planning

Production planning decides what a factory produces, in what order and on which line, to meet delivery dates with the capacity available.

Also known as production scheduling, production control, production sequencing, factory planning

In a prefab factory the plan is shaped by the site: elements must be finished and loaded in the order they will be erected. At the same time, the sequence has to balance the load on each station so no machine sits idle while another becomes a queue.

Good planning also checks that the data for each element is complete and producible before it is released, because a missing detail discovered on the line stops production.
