Takt time
Takt time is the pace at which a product must be completed to meet demand: the available production time divided by the number of units required.
Also known as takt, takt planning, cycle time, line takt, production rhythm
If a wall line has 7 hours of production time a day and must deliver 70 wall elements, the takt time is 6 minutes. Each station then has to finish its work on an element within those 6 minutes, or the line falls behind.
Takt time differs from cycle time, which is how long a station actually takes. Comparing the two per station shows where the line is balanced and where a bottleneck sits.
