Laser projection

Laser projection shows the outline of each part as lines of laser light on the work table, so operators can place parts without measuring or marking.

Also known as laser projector, laser template, projected layout, laser positioning system

Overhead projectors read the element’s CAD data and trace the position of every member, plate or opening directly onto the table or the element. When the job changes, the projection changes with it: no templates, tape measures or chalk lines.

It is a form of assisted manual production. People still do the work, but the machine shows them where, which cuts setup time and errors for varied, short-run production.
