Jig
A jig is a fixture that holds parts in exactly the right position while they are assembled, so every copy comes out the same.
Also known as assembly jig, truss jig, framing jig, fixture, jig table
In prefab production a jig sets the geometry of the element. Stops or fixtures on a table locate each stud, joist or truss member, so the operator places parts against the jig rather than measuring each one, and the finished element is square and to size.
The cost of a jig is setup time. Every new truss shape or panel size means moving the stops, which is why modern systems use projected layouts, movable or magnetic fixtures, or remove the physical jig altogether.
