Gypsum board

Gypsum board (plasterboard, drywall) is a sheet of gypsum plaster between paper or fibre facings, used for interior linings and fire protection.

Also known as plasterboard, drywall, gypsum wallboard, sheetrock, fire-rated board

Gypsum boards form the inner surface of most timber and steel-framed buildings. They are quick to fix and joint, give a smooth surface for decoration and, because gypsum contains chemically bound water, they slow the spread of fire.

Special boards add fire resistance, moisture resistance, sound insulation or impact strength, and exterior-grade boards serve as wind barriers. In some designs the boards also contribute to the bracing of the wall.
