OSB (oriented strand board)
OSB (oriented strand board) is a structural board made from layers of wood strands glued and pressed together, with the outer layers aligned for strength.
Also known as OSB, OSB board, OSB/3, oriented strand board, OSB sheathing
Thin wood strands are dried, mixed with resin and laid in layers, with the strands in the surface layers aligned along the board and the core layers across it, then pressed into sheets. The result is strong, stiff and cheaper than plywood.
OSB is widely used as structural sheathing on walls and roofs and as floor decking. Grades are set by use: OSB/3, for example, is rated for load-bearing use in humid conditions.
