Roof trusses

Web (truss web)

Webs are the internal members of a truss that connect the top and bottom chords and divide the truss into triangles.

Also known as webs, web member, truss web, diagonal, strut

Webs are what make a truss a truss: by triangulating the space between the chords they turn the frame into a rigid structure. Depending on their position, each web works in tension or compression, carrying load from one chord to the other.

The web pattern gives many truss types their name: a W in the fink truss, radiating members in the fan truss, verticals and diagonals in the Howe truss.
