Partition wall
A partition wall divides the space inside a building; it may be load-bearing or not, and is usually a stud frame boarded on both sides.
Also known as interior wall, internal wall, stud partition, non-load-bearing wall, dividing wall
Partitions are simpler than external walls: studs and plates, often with sound insulation in the cavity, and boards on each face. Some carry floors or roofs, like a centre bearing wall; others only separate rooms and can be light timber or steel.
Where partitions separate apartments or fire compartments, they must meet requirements for sound insulation and fire resistance, which set the build-up of boards and insulation.
