Offsite construction

Offsite construction is building in a factory rather than on the building plot, then delivering the finished elements or modules to site.

Also known as offsite, off-site construction, MMC, modern methods of construction, industrialised construction, industrialized construction

Offsite construction is the broader term for prefabrication: the value-adding work happens away from the plot, in a manufacturing environment. It ranges from flat components (panels and cassettes) up to volumetric modules that arrive as complete rooms.

In the UK and elsewhere it is often grouped under “modern methods of construction” (MMC). The common thread is the same: predictable factory output, a shorter and safer programme on site, and less exposure to weather and site labour shortages.
