Multi-stud

A multi-stud is two or more studs fixed together into one member, used at corners, wall junctions, openings and point loads.

Also known as built-up stud, corner stud, triple stud, stud pack, king and jack stud

Where walls meet, where an opening needs trimmers, or where a beam lands on the wall, a single stud is not enough. Several studs are nailed together into a pack that gives a fixing for both walls at a corner, carries the concentrated load, or frames the side of an opening.

Multi-studs are small but numerous and they vary: each corner or junction type has its own arrangement. Building them separately, as sub-assemblies, keeps the main framing station running.
