Light gauge steel (LGS)
Light gauge steel is thin, cold-formed steel sections used as an alternative to timber for the frames of walls, floors and roofs.
Also known as LGS, light gauge steel framing, cold-formed steel
Light gauge steel (LGS), also called cold-formed steel, is made by rolling thin steel strip into C- and U-shaped sections. Used in place of timber studs and joists, it is dimensionally stable, non-combustible, light for its strength and made to precise tolerances.
The construction logic is much the same as timber framing: studs, plates and panels. This means the same production thinking, and often the same machines, can be adapted to build in steel.
