Cross-laminated timber (CLT)
Cross-laminated timber (CLT) is a solid wood panel made from layers of boards glued crosswise, each layer at right angles to the one below.
Also known as CLT, X-lam, cross laminated timber panel, mass timber
Crossing the layers makes the panel strong and dimensionally stable in both directions, so CLT can act as a load-bearing wall, floor or roof slab in its own right. Panels are produced in large formats and CNC-cut to shape, openings included, before delivery.
CLT is a mass-timber system, as opposed to a framed one: the structure is solid wood rather than studs with insulation between them. It is widely used in multi-storey timber buildings, often combined with glulam beams and timber-framed infill walls.
