Wood fibre insulation
Wood fibre insulation is made from softwood fibres, as flexible batts, rigid boards or loose fill, and is used in walls and roofs as a bio-based alternative to mineral wool.
Also known as wood fiber insulation, wood fibre board, woodfibre insulation, natural insulation, bio-based insulation
The fibres come from sawmill residues and are bonded into batts or pressed into boards. Rigid wood fibre boards are often used on the outside of the frame, where they insulate, act as a wind barrier and reduce thermal bridging through the studs.
Wood fibre stores heat well, which evens out temperature swings, and it can buffer moisture. It is popular in low-carbon and passive-house construction, particularly in Germany and Central Europe.
