LVL (laminated veneer lumber)

LVL (laminated veneer lumber) is an engineered timber made from thin veneers glued together with the grain in the same direction.

Also known as LVL, laminated veneer lumber, LVL beam, Kerto, engineered lumber

Logs are peeled into veneers about 3 mm thick, which are dried, graded, glued and pressed into long billets and cut to size. Spreading natural defects across many thin layers makes LVL stronger and more uniform than sawn timber of the same size.

LVL is used for headers, beams, rim boards and long-span members, and for I-joist flanges. It is often chosen where a sawn section would need to be too deep or would vary too much in strength.
